People are searching a less painful, less costly way to achieve.meaning and significance. The worldview is not completely formed, but still has taken shape. A lot of famous people had made impact on the New Age movement since 1970s.
The evolutionary model is the leftover from Western naturalism. In 1973, Jean Houston said that we need a psychenaut program to put the first man on earth. In 1990, she said we were already in the type I high-level civilization. Then will come type II, and III.
Nothing really happened in the past 20yrs to improve the human although the theme had been presented.
In early 1970s, Andrew Weil held a theory about technoshamanism, Which influenced future.
new age worldview is not confined to one narrow band of humanity. There’re connections between psychology, sociology, anthropology, natural science elements, health, science fiction, and even in movies. They’re different and do not represent the mainstream. A worldview of immense cultural impact and penetration has been formulated and is being promoted.
The new age worldview has borrowed ideas from every major worldviews. The connection with naturalism not only gives it a better chance to win converts than purer eastern mysticism, but also is the hope of evolutionary change for humanity. The new age place great value on individual person. There comes a new consciousness related to animism. It reflects every aspect of animism, though giving a naturalistic twist.

Summarizing pages one hundred sixty six to one hundred eighty one I would have to say that the New Age sounds a lot like what I’ve found many people to believe in. It explains how the whole, us ( humans ), the world, the nature is one consciousness, that we are all connected. With this we can say that there are special people who are more in tune with this than others, this gives them more “ power ” in which they are better able to use the natural world around us to find answers or seek help. Furthermore using natural drugs, it is able to expand our mind and open up a new reality which is the one within the one we live the true core and essence of everything. The higher the intake, the further and more you are said to discover. Some people are so determined to find the “ truth ” that they have died. In addition the New Agers have bits and pieces of other worldviews such as naturalism, animism, theism, and Eastern Pantheistic Monism. They borrow what they like from other worldviews and make them into their own this way is like making your own religion while being able to choose what you want to follow. Like Mr. Nutter says it’s like the easy way out. I also see it like this because it’s like choosing to “ yay let’s do drugs ”, “ yay world is ours and can help us do anything ” and in my opinion is like choosing what’s ‘ fun ’ and making it into your religion.

Westerners were having a hard time completely adapting to Eastern thought and so they decided to conduct a search for consciousness, and ended up finding The New Age. The New Age contains many contradictions and isn’t completely thought out, but still considered an important worldview. New Age writers have attempted to give the worldview a structure, like Marilyn Ferguson, Fritjof Capra, and Ken Wilber. In August of 1987, there was supposed to be a Harmonic Convergence that would start the Age of Aquarius which meant an age of peace. But so far, that hasn’t been proved true. According to Jean Houston, “It’s almost as if the species were taking a quantum leap into a whole new way of being.” New Agers read the works of ancient religious figures to show that there is hope for humanity because there is a new age coming. Andrew Weil thought that by effectively using psychedelic drugs that humans would achieve full heath and new states of consciousness. They link this idea to “technoshamanism”. The New Age has affected lots of different subjects in our lives like psychology, sociology, cultural history, anthropology, natural science, health (acupuncture, rolfing), science fiction, movies, (Star Wars). According to Sire, Oprah Winfrey (my idol) is considered the most influential promoter of New Age spirituality. Which is so encouraging because knowing that Oprah supports it, makes me want to support it too. The New Age borrows ideas from a bunch of other worldviews. Naturalism because they both don’t believe in a transcendent god and they believe in evolution. Like Theism and Naturalism, the New Age puts great emphasis on the individual. Like Pantheistic Monism, the consciousness centers around mystical spirituality that can be attained by specific things. It’s also related to animism, because they believe in worshipping spirits as well.

In New Age Movement they have harsh edge, inner excitement, and flat out opposition.
New age advances the idea that man is going to “transcend” who he is, and will bring in the coming of a new man and a New Age.
New Age got the idea almost from all Worldviews, for example naturalism- denies the existence of a transcendent God.
Their prime reality is whtatever you believe is the nature of being. Here the SELF is the most important, and they believe that the self defines the center of a human and the center of the universe.
According to the New Ager if everyone finds the inner god, then there will be no more sin only transcend joy will be the result of it.
the one phrase that go my attention was that ” know that you are God, know that you are the universe”.

Those who are unsatisfied with Western thought can find a refuge in the East, but Eastern philosophy is so different, so foreign, that Westerners never quite grow accustomed to it. This is where the new age comes in. The new age movement started in the 1970′s, so it really is not new anymore. It still has problems, glitches and contradictions, but many people have accepted this unique worldview.
The New Age borrows from all the major worldviews we have discussed. How then, can it be cohesive? Well, it can’t, and it isn’t.

It is hard for me to define New Age Movement. New Age Movement is a sort of combination of Eastern thoughts and Western thoughts. New Agers wanted a less painful way to achieve the meaning of life. New Agers focused on individual spirit. New Agers’ thoughts appeared in many fields such as psychology, sociology, anthropology and movies. This worldview became popular during late 1900s. New Age Movement borrowed ideas from Naturalism which denied the existence of God. It also borrowed idea from EPM, Animism and Theism. The prime reality is simple that the self is the God who created his/her own reality. It this is true, does that mean the people who appear in our lifes are illusions?

The new ager believes in a physical reality (usually) but a ‘created’ spiritual reality (usually).

The New Age movement is a variation of Eastern Pantheistic Monism and Naturalistic/Nihilistic combination. New Agers believe that God is All and All is God. There is nothing more beyond God, considering it is everything. The New Age movement has never technically developed as it has many contradictions and never fully explains itself, but we can still analyze it as the way it is now. Some authors argue that the root of the New Age movement stems from prehistoric Gnosticism and even future Western human development. By the mid 1970’s, the New Age movement was already fully expanding and numerous mainstream magazines were already covering it. The New Agers believe that the universe is constantly evolving and in that, we must find a human consciousness. This is essentially a whole new way of being. In transforming into a higher consciousness, one will find the depth and meaning to the universe. Questions that have been proven to be unanswerable will soon become the opposite. Psychedelic drug use and mystical techniques of healing is also a very commonly used practice when trying to find invisible consciousness. This execution was frequently used in the 1970’s when there was a distinct drug problem. Addressing the health department, the New Ager will regularly use abnormal medicinal remedies. Some of these cures include acupuncture, psychic healing, and therapeutic touch. The New Age movement has very obviously taken ideas and beliefs from various world views and fused them into one big melting pot of “religion”. I use the word “religion” lightly as the New Age movement cannot be a religion now or at any point in the future due to a never ending amount of contradictions within the belief.

Eastern mysticism poses one way out for Western people caught in naturalism’s nihilistic bind . But Eastern mysticism is foreign. Even a watered-down version like Transcendental Meditation requires an immediate and radical reorientation from the West’s normal mode of grassing reality. When this book was first published , there were very few attempts to bring all these New Age notions together in one place . The schemata that follows was at that time almost unique.By the mid 1970s articles and cover stories in time magazine and other major popular magazines touted the growing interest in the weird and the wonderful. At the end of 1987 time magazine again focused on the new age, with cover featuring shirley Mclaine and a story surveying faith healers , channelers, space travelers and crystals galore.Basing much of their hope on the evolutionary model a leftover from Western naturelism a number of avant grade thinkers have been prophesying the coming of a new man and a new age.Though the theme of personal and cultural evolution has been present from the 1970s into the 2000s, its ubiquitous emphasis by new age teachers seems more important to me now than ever before.in psychology the first theorizer to recognize the validity of altered states of consciousness was william james. in sociology and cultural history are theodore toszak , especially in where the wasteland ends and unfinished animal and william irwen thompson, whose at the edge of history and passages about earth trace his wen intellectual journey from catholicism through naturalism and on into an occult version of the new age. In anthropology is carlos castneda those books have been bestsellers both on university campuses and in general bookstores. The new age worldview is highly syncretistic and eclectic. it borrows from every major worldview .The new consciousness reflects every aspect of animism, though often giving it a naturalistic twist, or demythologizing it by psychology.

The New Age Movement was changing from western thought to eastern thought. It about a person must metaphorically die to the west to be born in the east. To explain for this, the New Age movement is attempting that it contains many rough edges, inner tensions and even flat out contradictions.
The range of New Age thought is in our culture like psychology, sociology, anthropology, natural science, american indian cultures, health and science fiction. The New Age movement borrowed from naturalism, theism and animism. For instance, from naturalism the New Age movement confuse the existence of a transcendent God. There is only the closed universe. From theism the New Age movement make a great value on the individual Eastern Pantheistic Monism about a mystical experience in which time, space and morality are transcended. From animism the New Age movement state that natural universe inhabited by countless spiritual beings at the top the sky God, spirits range from comic and good to evil, people must placate the evil and woo the good spirits and all is continuum of spirit and matter. Also, one branch of the New Age movement promise the idea that man is going to transcend. We will become the Gods that we have invoked.

I think The New Age movement is a Western spiritual.,There are many in virtually every area of culture who hold something like this way of
looking at reality. The new consciousness reflect every aspect of animism, though often giving it a naturalistic twist,or demythologizing it by psychology.Based on the idea of consciousness, is the determination of consciousness as a person himself. This will open a new era, is man’s conscious, from the knowledge of the outside world, to the inner spiritual consciousness, based on the transition of the ego. This is different from god, hero, the person’s age, because it is based on people’s inner, conscious themselves. For a human, consciousness, not natural. this is the human, in different times, is bound to pass the reason of though. It, based on consciousness, open people’s conscious, for your own self-awareness. This is a new kind of consciousness, is also a new era.

New Age movement, that objective external world and the subjective inner world is the corresponding, substantially better than the saint of effort outside the king, so we know everything is just outside the inner world of the reaction, only complete their own. The universe can only really be done, to love yourself is the New Age movement is a very important concept, this concept is different from the traditional call us to salvation, to bear rescue the burden of the tragic world doctrine. The New Age movement believe any one life will eventually notice, just about our so-called enlightened nowhere to go, nothing to do. The most important thing in our lives is only good in the moment. That is the moment to relax and current awareness this call us with the traditional repair or go to heaven after death afterlife paradise ideas are different.

This part of the book first starts by explaining that westerns tend always try to go find meaning in the Eastern worldviews, but of course one can not just make such an adjustment without having to change his ideas of what feelings, meaning and purpose there is in life. so of course it is had to try to adapt a new worldview that your not used to as it says in the book “we are experiencing a worldview in its late adolescence” which i believe is trying to say that we have not yet fully understood its concept.

It also talk about western naturalism, they explain how people like Jean Houston said that the world needs some psychic or phenomenon abilities to be able toput the first man on earth, and that will be stage one of a very long process that will take generations to solve. which makes me wonder if they were trying to bring the first man on earth where did they think that they were living, on another planet or is it that they were trying to find a perfect place where every man could be satisfied.

inthis chapter it talks about the new age spirituality without religious, when this book was first published , there were few attempts to bring all these new age notions together in one place.all three writers have made an impact on the new age movement itself, giving it a sense of coherence and focus it had formely lacked.one major strain of optimism about the new age has, however, become more muted than transformed. in the early 1970’s andrew weil,MD,drugsearcher used to altenate ways of acheiving new states of consciousness. the drug revoulution, he thought, was the harbinger of the new age an age in which human kind because it wisely utilizes drug and mystical techniques will finall achieve full health.

New age started about 1960s. It borrowed ideas from other western religions like Buddhism and Hinduism. People wanted to find easy way to achieve meaning and significance of those religion so new age came out. By 1990s, new age became more mainstream and popular. At least 20 popular new age magazines are carried at any major bookstore. A new age believes he is god himself and he can transcend beyond physical . In order to find more experience, a new age use drug. This belief or habit have led to many tragic death of new age.

The new age movement came during the twentieth century and it was mainly the combination of many worldviews and they put together many ideas and eliminated the hard ones and they found what is easy for them. As sire named the chapter the new age – spirituality without religion, they are creatig energy matter and life at the interferance between the void and all known creation, they are facing into the known creating it and filling it. The new age is not confined to being a narrow band of humanity, it is a mixture of both a new york intellectual and a west coast guru, and is recognized as theistic christians. New age is related to eastern pantheistic monism, naturalism and christianity.

New Age movement is basically in my opinion people that dont know what they believe in so they just start going into other religions and seeing what they like about it then only doing that part they like. They put a bunch of beliefa together and try to follow them but it doesnt work that way. Then they also try to explore a different kind of consciousness, where they are not there physically but mentally so they do things like drinking drugs and trying to see if they can be conscious in a different type of consciousness. Which is crazy to me because your playing with your life and if you lose you cant take back whatever happened.

The New Age movement has many sub-divisions, but it is generally a collection of Eastern-influenced metaphysical thought systems, a conglomeration of theologies, hopes, and expectations held together with an eclectic teaching of salvation, of “correct thinking,” and “correct knowledge.” It is a theology of “feel-goodism,” “universal tolerance,” and “moral relativism.” The NAM says that God is all, and all is God, then nature is also part of God. Man must then get in tune with nature and learn to nurture it and be nurtured by it. In this, all people can unite.
American Indian philosophies are popular among New Agers because they focus on the earth, on nature, and man’s relationship to them.New Age philosophy generally seeks to merge with those philosophies that put man and nature on an equal level. We are no more or less important or different than our cousin the animal, bird, or fish. We must live in harmony with them, understand them, and learn from them, is the general philosophy of the New Age.

A summary of what I read is that New Agers take bits and pieces of other worldview’s to create their own. Their worldview is not really their own, but the way that they have put it all together is like picking and choosing what they “liked” from they want to do and not want to do. There are some contradictions in which the discussion of psychedelics comes up. They claim using psychedelics helps them open up a new consciousness but it is created in their own mind but how is it then that they seem to see the same “made up” beings. The New Agers have loopholes from being made up of multiple worldviews and don’t really make sense.

New Ages happened during 12 century was the new human wordview of fing the difference of Void and The Comsms, the real world, thought that, human start to lost the right way of looking for a religion, they are full of fear and start to create a new religion to protect themselves. So, in my opion, New Ages is a long time of giving human chances to find new religion.

By the way, I am sorry of doing this late, I want to do it this morning, but I do feel really bad.

The new age movement
The new agers were trying to find a way to achieve meaning and significance
The new age has ideas from many worldviews. It denies the significance of God just like naturalism does. Individual is treated well like in theism.
New agers think that we are going to evolution and to improve a person
The New Agers into drugs. The reason for that is to leave your body to u learn what is going on and drugs were one of the ways to do that.
Even some studies were influenced by the new age. Now psychology says that you need to find the consciousness. Sociology teaches the path from Catholicism to the new age through naturalism Acupuncture became the main treatment. Even the books and the movies have the new age ideas. Natural science states that the earth is a greek goddess.
